hiccup.

Hey there. remember me? Let's catch you up on the last two weeks! Last time we spoke, I was showing you the framing that started upstairs! I spoke to a few people who are frequent blog visitors and some said the paint lines were confusing, some said they were very helpful. Since it actually took me a long time to do that I figured I would leave the "framing" post to just that last one. Which hopefully explains the lack of posts, we're still in the framing stage, the upstairs still looks like this:

Downstairs looked like this 2 weeks ago:

Last week it looked like this!

They accidentally framed the living room wall for dry wall two weeks ago. See the framing in the first picture next to the green ladder? We had always wanted to expose the brick in the living room. We feel like it is a very "row home thing to do", it's charming and beyond that, I like the way it looks.  The team had to then take down that wood and start to expose the brick. This is where we run into hiccup number 2! As the crew started to pull down the plaster they ran into something "interesting".
ra oh.
See that grey line on the left side of the picture? That's some type of chimney and we couldn't see it until we pulled the plaster off. It's about 8-10inches wide. Totally wack. It's going to be really hard to expose the brick when there is no brick. They gave us two options, option #1- build a "bump out"/ column type of thing to cover the metal/area that doesn't have brick or option #2 two find a brick that matches to the best of their ability. I felt VERY strongly against the bump out. It would have just broken up the room and would have made it VERY hard to find furniture to fit around it. We decided to work with the mason to find a brick that matches as close as possible. At the end of the day imperfections could be cool and rustic looking, columns are too modern for my taste. Hopefully this week the mason will come and fix the brick and re-point it just like the front of the house!

What do you think? Did we make the right decision about the brick?
