I kicked off our challenge yesterday by checking not 1 but 2 things off of our RAK list! I started with the first thing on my list, because I’m crazy like that: “Pay for someone’s Coffee/ or buy a gift card for $5 and hand it to a person in line.” I was too nervous to just pay for someone’s coffee, I didn’t want them to think I was hitting on them and I didn’t want to explain myself so I opted for buying a gift card. My plan was to be a phantom, casually walk up to someone, hand them a gift card and leave before they knew what hit them. You see, my girlfriends and I would refer to the guys at the bar that would buy us a drink and not make us talk to them as phantoms. Those guys were always the best thing that could happen to you on a Friday night so I thought I would take a page from their book. When I went to Starbucks I brought one of those RAK cards (previously filled out) with me and my plan was to buy myself a latte, buy a $5 gift card and while I was waiting for my latte to be ready I would wrap the RAK card around the gift card, then get my latte, hand the card to someone and casually stroll out the door. Bing. Bam. Boom.

| $5 gift cad, my latte |
In my mind I’m a lot cooler, slicker and suave than I am in real life. I was REALLY nervous to do this for some reason and I let a few people walk in before I got the nerve up to give the GC to someone. When I finally mustered up the courage and walked over to someone the girl was a little confused at first and then was extremely appreciative!! I didn’t explain why I was giving her $5, I just said “here is a $5 gift card, happy holidays” and then let the RAK card do the rest of the talking:

It was a ridiculous high, my adrenaline was rushing so my planned casual stroll out the door turned into a skip/run/waddle where I spilt my latte and couldn’t even watch her read the card. I guess it would have been creepy if I stood in the window and watched but it would have been cool to be someone else in there and to see her reaction.
Regardless of the split coffee it was a lot of fun and felt great to cross something off the list. I’ll have to work on my RAK finesse for the next one. What about you? Any RAKs this weekend? I’ll fill you in on the 2nd thing we did soon!
- Pay for someone’s Coffee/ or buy a gift card for $5 and hand it to a person in line.
- Buy a $20 grocery story gift card and hand it to the person behind you (this can work at ANY store!)
- Pay for the person behind you at the toll booth (ez pass makes this difficult!)
- Donate clothes to GoodWill/Shelter/Etc. This one is TOO easy! Everyone should clean out their closets and get rid of ANYTHING they didn’t wear this past summer.
- Donate food to a Shelter. Canned goods are so cheap!
- Donate dog/cat food to a Shelter/homeless pup. You can find food on sale all the time!
- Donate to the Salvation Army- one dollar or two is all you need!
- Tape change to a soda machine. I saw this on another blog and I think it’s so freakn cute!
- Tape change to a parking meter. Ditto from the above
- Write a letter to a friend. Don’t you just love getting mail?!
- Call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. In the days of texting and email I think this get’s lost so easily! I’m so guilty of it!
- Call a family member you don’t usually call (watch out Mikey!)
- Leave a treat and note for the mailman. Maybe a poinsettia? Cookies? A gift card for lunch?
